"New software from USCB’s Bren School of Science and Management might facilitate a more environmentally responsible California — granted, it ain’t easy going green.

Five UCSB masters students-cum-alumnae programmed software that is designed to calculate a given city’s best gameplan to go green. Oh cool, we were noted by Bren too! Thanks guys for everything, we'll miss you but we promise to stay in touch. Thanks to James Badham for such a great writeup.

"Soon after graduating on June 11, five new Bren master’s alumni will travel to China, where they will collaborate with graduate students at Nanjing University's School of the Environment to develop strategies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) at the community level.

The trip is an offshoot of a 2010 Bren Group Project titled "Community Greenhouse Gas Solutions: Prioritizing Emissions-Reducing Strategies." For their collaboration, Bren master's students Michael Conrardy, Gavin Feiger, Allison King, Aaron Sobel, and Justin Whittet (all class of 2010) partnered with client and Bren Corporate Partner AECOM to "address climate-change mitigation at the community scale by providing recommendations for effective strategies to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions," according to the project final report..."

Presentation to Ventura, CA Public Tomorrow (6/2/2010)

We are excited to be giving a presentation to the community of Ventura, CA tomorrow night (Wed, June 2nd) at 6:30pm in the Ventura City Hall, Community Meeting Room located at 501 Poli Street. We were lucky to give a very early showing of our problem statement last year and got a wonderful crowd of active and engaged citizens to help us discover some of Ventura's personality. While we weren't able to incorporate all of the great ideas we heard, we did spend time as a group discussing the possibilites of all of them.

Tomorrow's presentation is meant to show the results of our work to the community. Keep in mind that our results are only meant to be suggestions based on the best research we could do within a short time and certainly do not encompass a full-on and comprehensive analysis of all of Ventura's possibilities. We really enjoyed our discussion last time with the community and we look forward to doing that again after a short 20-25 minute presentation of our work.
